HOW THE LRS WORKS
learnPro can act as your central Learning Record Store, receiving records from other systems you have in place and presenting them as an integrated part of users’ learning records alongside activity completed and recorded on learnPro LMS itself. We can work with the software provider or experts at your end to look at the options, whether using a standard like XAPI or a more arbitrary solution.
First, we will set up a process to import the records. This will depend on the capabilities of the system you are working with (the remote system), but will be one of the following:
- Pull: We access an interface (API) on the remote system on a regular schedule and import the records via XAPI or other standard requests
- Push: The remote system can access an interface (API) on learnPro LMS and send us records on its own schedule
- Upload: If the system does not offer a direct interface we can offer a local Windows upload utility to be used to regularly update data exported from the remote system from a local file
Next, we match up the received records to user accounts on learnPro LMS. This will be one of:
-
PullDirect ID match: If the data we receive from you has a staff number or other detail we already have in learnPro, we can use this to match up the imported data to the accounts in learnPro with no further action required
-
Per-account login linking: If the remote system supports linking via a unique key we provide, we can provide a link within learnPro for each individual to log in to their account on the remote system to link this to their learnPro account. This will only need to be done once by each user.
Once the records are imported, the passes can be imported to show on staff certificates, profiles, reports and as a required learning plan item on staff scorecards - basically, anywhere that a learnPro course appears. They can have Validity Periods added to automatically email when out of date and be set to be equivalent to other courses on the system.
